Holiday part II

Day 4 Moreton-in-Marsh & dinner at the Boot
I guess by now its pretty clear that we like our self's a good 'ol market. So Tuesday we drove to the weekly market day in Moreton-in-Marsh. This market offers all sorts of things, including plants, books and locally produced goods and handy work. It attracts people from far and wide, and even coaches with loads of grannies ;). Walking around here is really fun, as you will not see too many other tourists. Besides the market, Moreton is a lovely old town with antique shops and tea rooms on every corner!

After walking around the market we felt we wanted to escape so of the crowd and went for a cup of tea (and scones of course) in the lovely old town Stow.
For dinner we went to the pub-restaurant around the corner, called the Boot Inn in Flyford Flavell. If you want to see what an old English country pub looks like, you have to visit the Boot. The food is good and the beer (or ale or larger, or whatever they call it) is even better!

Day 5 - Coughton Court
Wednesday was forcasted to be the hottest day of the week (which it was!), so we decided to take it slow and visit another garden. Coughton Court is located near Alcester and is a stunner of a place. It has been owned by the Throckmorton family for 600 years and has an amazing history that dates back to the 14th century. It even plays a role in the Gunpowder plot of 1605. Remember, remember the fifth of November? You are free to roam some of the magnificent rooms inside the estate and you can even follow the winding staircase all the way up to the top for an amazing view (not for the faint of heart!). The rooms have volunteers which are happy to answer all of your questions (and maybe to make sure guest don't nick the silverware). The gardens are designed by the missus of the house and are jam packed with roses, aquilegias and peonies.

All the way to the top! A scary (and crowded) climb but totally wort it!

The new policy of the National Trust allows visitors to interact more with their heritage sites. So feel free to lounge on the sofa and read some of the books dotted around the beautiful living room.

Day 6 - Oxford
Of course our trip to the UK wouldn't be complete without a trip to Oxford. Sometimes revisiting some of your previous holiday destinations with their fond memories can be just as rewarding as visiting new and unexplored places. The same feeling creeps upon me whenever I'm in Oxford. Although my internship there was a pain, I still love to come back and visit the old city centre. Which starts with lunch  at the Wig & Penn, followed by a stroll over the antique market (near the cinema, held every Thursday) and nosing through all the little shops at the Covered Market. For tea and scones we sat down at our all time favorite: the Mirtre. If you are lucky to snatch a table near the window it offers the perfect spot to gaze into the high street of Oxford and all the weird and wonderful that pass by.

I didn't take any pictures of my trip to Oxford, as I was too busy reminiscing. Okay, maybe shopping as well (I admit!). But I found some of my old snaps of when I stayed there during my internship! Which I totally forgot to post back then... oops...
Trust me, the buildings still look the same, only the trees have a few more leaves and there are a lot more tourists ;)
