Girls on the town

This weekend my mum came over for a much needed catch up on recent events. My dad has gone to San Diego for a week to the SOT (Society of Toxicology), so instead of staying home alone, we decided it would be way more fun to spent some time together up North. And do some serious shopping of course! Saterday was a but rainy and wet, so we decided to go indoors and watch the Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. We saw the first one (actually, we have it on DVD) and we loved it so much that we vowed to see the second if it ever came out. And it did! It's a little predictable at times, but that doesn't take away from the charm and the beautiful views of India. Seeing these kind of movies always makes me want to pack my back and go straight to the airport!

We finished our day with a fine Dutch traditional dish: pancakes! At the Pancake Ship you eat one of the best pancakes for a very low price. They are huge (Huge!) and come with every ingredient you can imagine. If you go after 7 o'clock, most of the kids will be gone and the sound will be reduced to a cozy murmur. If its windy you can feel the boat rocking a little, especially if you walk out after a glass of wine! ;)
But it wasn't all a haze of spending money and eating, we also did some cultural activities. Like visit the Der Aa-church for some religious reflection. Oh wait, did I mention they were having a vintage sale?

Hope you weekend was fun too!

With love

Walk down town

I know it's been a while, but then again a PhD doesn't write itself ;)
Especially since lately my experiments either failed, or someone forgot to place a new order for equipment and we ran out of stock. So not a lot of action going on, giving me plenty of time to work on my presentation (which I had last Friday) and catch up on some reading/writing.

But it hasn't all been bad! Last weekend was the first warm Spring day, so me and parents went for a walk around down town Groningen. Even though I moved to Groningen two months ago, I haven't had the time to really explore the city. Which is of course much more fun to do together than on your own! If you ever have time to go for a walk around town, I recommend walking the "Courtyard route", which visits all the small enclosed old courtyards of Groningen. It's really like stepping into another world away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

And the city is just as beautiful by night ;)
